Cuando parecía que el mundo se sobreponía con gran esfuerzo a la crisis de las hipotecas y los títulos basura en los Estados Unidos, surgió la crisis de la Unión Europea. El periodismo, con ese arte de titular e capacidad de inventar palabras, la llamo las crisis de los PIGS, por el nombre en inglés de los países afectados.
Nuestra cercana España y Grecia, están siendo sacudidas por la turbulencia callejera que generan los programas de ajuste y los cuestionamientos a los modelos que ensayan sus gobiernos para amortiguar la crisis.
Se discuten nuevamente tópicos de alguna manera en desuso en esas latitudes, altísimos índices de desempleo, recortes de pensiones, aumento del requisito de la edad para obtener los beneficios de la jubilación y flexibilización de los contratos laborales. Sería imprudente opinar por lo que se lee en los diarios, pero siempre tuve claro que no se puede gastar lo que no se tiene y si se lo hace, se debe devolver lo que se nos ha prestado.
En medio de todas estas noticias preocupantes, emergió otra esperanzadora, una promesa de futuro en medio de la incertidumbre.
En efecto, la consultora Fast Future, a pedido del gobierno de Gran Bretaña, publicó un reporte denominado “The shape of jobs to come”, (El contenido de los puestos laborales del futuro), http://fastfuture.com/?p=129 donde proyecta las posibles carreras futuras que pueden emerger de los avances de la ciencia y la tecnología en el periodo 2010 – 2030.
El reporte intenta identificar una larga lista de puestos del futuro destacando puestos que aún no existen y puestos de trabajo actuales que podrían llegar a ser más prominentes en las siguientes dos décadas como resultado de estos avances. El reporte se focaliza en particular en 20 puestos que analiza con mayor profundidad.
Gordon Brown (primer ministro de británico hasta el 11 de mayo de 2010) dijo que "una prioridad para este Gobierno es preparar a Gran Bretaña para la economía del futuro y para asegurarse de que nuestros jóvenes pueden aprovechar las oportunidades que traerán las innovaciones en la ciencia y la tecnología. La forma de puestos de trabajo que muestra lo que podría ser en oferta para la próxima generación. Espero inspire a los jóvenes a adquirir las habilidades y la formación que se necesitan para tener éxito".
Más allá, de las carreras mencionadas en el reporte (1), que pueden descargarse desde la página de la consultora en el reporte de 150 páginas mencionado, me parece importantísimo resaltar, la función del gobierno: facilitar el análisis de la realidad y del futuro, tarea que difícilmente puedan encarar los particulares por si mismos al encargar semejante trabajo de investigación a una consultora independiente.
También me parece relevante la puesta a disposición de la sociedad de dicha información para que todos las personas puedan servirse de la misma, aprovechar las oportunidades situándose en el lugar adecuado de un futuro por construir.
El mensaje del ex primer ministro, delega en los jóvenes el compromiso de adquirir las habilidades o competencias del futuro. No confía en planificadores oficiales, en burócratas de escritorio, confía en la gente del mundo real, la que genera sus propias oportunidades y genera riqueza para sí y para sus semejantes. Confía en aquellos que a pesar de percibir que las empresas encuentran razones para no expandirse ni extender la posibilidad del empleo, son capaces de tomar riesgos y generar emprendimientos que motoricen la creación de nuevos empleos.
Estudios como el mencionado, posicionan las universidades, escuelas, organizaciones de todo tipo y particularmente a las empresas frente a la pregunta ¿Qué deberíamos estar enseñando ahora? Plantea a los jóvenes: ¿Qué deberíamos estar aprendiendo ahora? para no engrosar las filas del desempleo o del subsidio. Posiciona al management y en especial a los directivos de recursos humanos frente al desafío de generar ámbitos donde la innovación sea la regla, el error sea parte del aprendizaje, la colaboración transversal enriquezca por las diferencias y desarrolle la capacidad de adaptar nuestros procesos a las nuevas / futuras realidades.
El futuro es el resultado del esfuerzo colectivo, no de la voluntad un iluminado. El futuro no se hereda, se construye día a día con el apoyo de quienes comparten la misma visión y son capaces de materializarla en hechos concretos.
Bienaventurados los emprendedores, porque Uds. crearán las oportunidades.

5. Memory augmentation surgeon Surgeons could add extra memory to people who want to increase their memory and to help those who have been over-exposed to information and need more memory to store it.
6. ‘New science’ ethicist As scientific advances speed up in areas like cloning, we may need a new breed of ethicist who understands the science and helps society make choices about what developments to allow. It won’t be a question of can we, but should we?
7. Space pilots, tour guides and architects With companies already promising space tourism, we will need space pilots and tour guides, as well as architects to design where they will live and work. 8. Vertical farmers Vertical farms growing in skyscrapers in the middle or our cities could dramatically increase food supply by 2020. Vertical farmers will need skills in a range of scientific disciplines, engineering and commerce.

10. Quarantine enforcer If a deadly virus starts spreading rapidly, few countries, and few people, will be prepared.
Nurses will be in short supply. And as death rates rise, and neighborhoods are shut down, someone will have to guard the gates.
11. Weather modification police The act of stealing clouds to create rain is already happening in some parts of the world and is altering weather patterns thousands of miles away. Weather modification police will need to control and monitor who is allowed to shoot rockets containing silver iodine into the air - a way to provoke rainfall from passing clouds.
12. Virtual lawyer As more and more of our daily life goes online, we will need specialist lawyers to resolve legal disputes which could involve people living in countries and regions with different laws.
13. Avatar manager / devotees / virtual teachers Intelligent avatars or computer characters could be used to support or even replace teachers in the classroom. The devotee is the human that makes sure the avatar and thestudent are properly matched.
14. Alternative vehicle developers We need the designers and builders of the next generations of vehicle transport using alternative materials and fuels. Could the dream of zero-emission cars or even underwater and flying cars become a reality within the next two decades?
15. Narrowcasters As content on the television, radio and the internet becomes increasingly personalised, there will be jobs for specialists working with producers and advertisers to create news, entertainment and information tailored to our personal interests. While some personalization will be done by computers, customized narrowcasting to individuals could be performed by humans.
16. Waste data handler As data and information about us increases on computers everywhere, we may need waste data handlers to securely get rid of our data so we can’t be tracked or have our identity stolen.
17. Virtual clutter organiser Clutter managers will help us organise our electronic lives. 18. Time broker / Time bank trader Time has always been precious and time banking already exists. In the future there may be other alternative currencies that will have their own markets where they can be traded.
19. Social 'networking' worker We may need social workers for people who may be traumatized or
marginalised by social networking.
20. Personal branders This job would be an extension of the role played by celebrity stylists and publicists. Personal branders will work for anyone to create a personal "brand" using social networking sites and other media. The sorts of issues they will be dealing with will be what personality are you projecting via your Blog, Twitter, etc? What personal values do you want to build into your image? And is your image consistent with your real life personality and your goals?
